About Us

Cecy and Travis Holcomb are originally from El Paso, Texas. They moved to San Marcos, Texas to build their home, studio, and garden. Cecy worked full-time and attended classes at Texas State University until she left and pursued her degree full-time. Cecy earned a BFA with a specialization in Ceramics. Cecy always wanted to learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel, so it wasn’t until she moved from El Paso to San Marcos that it was possible to make this dream come true. Although a degree is not required to throw on the potter’s wheel, it was informative in executing the foundations of design, color, structure, and concepts about creating work. Most of Cecy’s work is inspired by her mother and her cultural heritage. Some of the ideas include the following series, Folklorico and Aguas Frescas.

While Cecy completed her degree, Travis oversaw the construction of the studio. After Cecy graduated in 2006, she later helped with the inside of the studio, “her diamond in the rough” as she says. Seventeen years later, the wheels are still spinning.

People often ask, “What made you want to work with clay?” There are so many reasons why Cecy wanted to work with clay, but what led her to this path was working in a ceramic shop in El Paso.  After working there, Travis and Cecy worked with Travis’ mom at a ceramic shop she owned. They poured slip into molds and sold greenware to the public. The customers would purchase the greenware, clean it, and return it for firing. After a couple of years, Travis and Cecy moved to San Marcos, worked, and slowly built their house and studio from the ground up.

We primarily create functional, handmade pottery such as cups, bowls, pitchers, and other household items to complement the home or office. They also make great gifts for your friends and family.

Most of the work is wheel-thrown, altered, slip-decorated, and fired in an oxidation atmosphere.  We use stoneware and porcelain clay.

The pottery is lead-free and can be used in the oven, microwave, and dishwasher.

We want to provide you with a quality product you will enjoy using in your everyday life and on special occasions.

The studio is open by appointment only and during Open Studio tours. Contact cecyholcomb@yahoo.com to visit the studio. Visit the Events page for upcoming events.
